Specialized's Armadillo Puncture Protection.

Great ride, gets flats easily

By

About Me Competitive Cyclist

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Great Traction

Cons

  • Prone To Flats

Best Uses

  • Road Biking

Comments:

I have these on the hybrid bike that I bought for commuting. They provide a great ride rain or shine and provide a smooth fast ride. They are however prone to flats. I've had more flats with these in 6 months than I had in 7 years prior riding the same route with my road bike. The bike never leaves roads/sidewalks and it seems like just about anything will go right through them and cause a flat.

Comments:

I bought this tire to upgrade my mountain bike for road and Bike trail use. I have an older Trek 4300 Mountain bike that I bought in 2000 with 26"x1.95" knobby tires. When I normally ride I usually go about 30miles a trip and thought it was great, but once I put these tires on I immediately noticed a HUGE difference both in Speed, Handling and Tactile road feedback that had me feeling much better about the purchase. I tend to avoid riding over anything that could cause flats so I can't comment on how well it prevents them but I'm willing to bet it prevents them just fine as long as you're not riding on a bed of nails.

Comments:

I have owned 3 sets of these tires and dont plan on really ever getting any others. I commute to work and do a fair amount of pleasure riding over the last few years I have put about 7500-8000 miles on my Giant MT bike and am on my 3rd set of Nimbus Armadillos. They roll great and are very puncture resistant you mount them and forget about them until the rubber right on the center of the tire starts peeling away from the kevlar belt underneath. Then your going to need to replace them its a dull red color so its easy to see when there dead. Overall a solid everyday city street ride I would recommend to anyone tired of flats and looking to save you a few minutes on your commute.

Let me mention that this tire is just fantastic ... I have extra large Bags on my bike that get loaded with fliers twice a week ... 400+ lbs plus my own weight at 190 lbs I inflate them to 65 lbs and in the last 2 (two) years never had a flat, they are great also in the rain and dirt as I ride the bike every day commuting across town frequently ... they are a great conversion tire from Mountain to Street Bike.

    no more flats

      Comments:

I commute 12 miles daily from the south side to near north, so I hit a lot of bumpy ground and road debris. Armadillos are simply the best I've tried for keeping me flat-free. One flat in two seasons, and that was just a giant nail that would flat any tire. I also have armadillos for touring on my tandem and have been very happy.

We ride a tandem, have tried a couple different tires, but always come back to the Nimbus. We have over 20,000 miles on the bike and have had 2 flats. Tires last 1500-1800 miles on the back, 2000-2500 miles on the front. Tacks, thorns, nails and glass haven't been a problem.

These are great tires for negotiating city streets, jumping curbs and taking on uneven sidewalks by the beach on my Gary Fisher mountain bike. They roll fast and have lasted two years without a single flat, in spite of glass and debri on the streets.
